A Gluten Free Banana Flour
CV. SPL JAYA is an institution that produces various flours from natural ingredients grown in Indonesia. The initial production of banana flour in Ngawi began with an organization named KUTIP (Ngawi Banana Farmers Group, which was established on May 24, 2017, in Ngawi, East Java, by a woman named Madame Susi, a village midwife.
With modest capital, she strived to establish a non-governmental organization (NGO) to accommodate banana farmers, specifically in marketing and developing derivative products from bananas, aiming to position them with better economic value.
Madame Susi’s concern stemmed from two main issues: the large number of elderly people around her home who were eager to work but were no longer hired as farm laborers (their daily livelihood), and the abundance of unsold bananas in the market.
This situation sparked an idea on how to transform both problems into something valuable. Consequently, Ibu Susi tried to embrace these elderly individuals and train them to be productive again, simultaneously increasing their income through the diversification of banana derivative products.
This is how the KUTIP (Ngawi Banana Farmers Group) was born. The initial product we developed did not yet meet the desired market standards for banana flour, as the Oxalate and Tannin content in the bananas needed to be at a specific, tolerable level. We conducted several trial-and-error experiments in making banana flour until we eventually sent the results for product lab testing at the UGM Laboratory and met the food standards.
Now, over time, this working group has formalized its legality into a business entity in the form of a Commanditaire Vennootschap (CV), namely CV. Sumber Pangan Lestari Jaya (SPL Jaya).
